Essie Sewell Obituary

Life Journey

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:6

Essie Mae Sewell was born May 21, 1926, to the late Essau Seawright and Essie Barnes in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

“Mother Sewell” as she was affectionately known was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System. Essie volunteered with the Philadelphia School District and eventually was hired as a Reading Aid

In 1975 she felt the tug of the Lord and accepted Christ and was baptized in the AME church

She joined the African Methodist Episcopal Church serving on the Usher board and on the senior choir
she eventually left there and joined Triedstone Pentecostal Church of God in Christ
where she faithfully served as usher board president, church mother and Pastor’s Aide.
When her son in law and daughter were led by the Lord and birthed Judah Speaks Ministries in Philadelphia
she joined them and was a faithful church mother and member until she was no longer able to serve

Essie was the eldest of eight children. Siblings Ruth, Thelma, Percy, Barbara, Robert, Charles and Eve all preceded her in death.
